Tarrant County officials will hold the 12th Annual Healthy Lives Matter Prostate Cancer Education and Screening Event on February 28, 2026. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Moncrief Cancer Institute in Fort Worth. It is free and open to men of all ages, with registration available online.
The American Cancer Society reports that over 333,000 men in the United States are expected to be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year. Men considered high risk—such as Men of Color over age 45 and those with a first-degree relative who has had prostate cancer—are twice as likely to develop the disease. African American men face higher risks compared to Caucasian men and are nearly twice as likely to die from prostate cancer.
A PSA test, which will be offered at the event, measures levels of prostate-specific antigen in the blood. Elevated PSA can indicate early signs of prostate cancer. Early detection remains important for improving outcomes.
Attendees will receive continental breakfast and lunch during the event.
Tarrant County schools have seen a decrease in at-risk students by 1.2% during the 2023-24 school year, totaling 209,203 students (https://tea.texas.gov/). Despite this decline, Tarrant County ranked third highest in Texas for total at-risk student enrollment during that period (https://tea.texas.gov/). Hispanic students made up the largest ethnic group in local schools, numbering 162,305 or about 42.9% of all students; white students were second with 95,052 or roughly one-quarter of enrollment (https://tea.texas.gov/).
For more information about the screening event, interested individuals can call (817) 370-4500 or (817) 531-5600.
“We look forward to seeing everyone!”
