Former Texas state senator Kelly Hancock has announced his candidacy for the position of comptroller, while also being sworn in as chief clerk of the Texas Comptroller’s Office. The announcement came on Thursday, alongside an endorsement from Governor Greg Abbott. The role of comptroller is a significant one, serving as the state’s chief financial officer.
Hancock will begin his duties as acting comptroller starting July 1. This move follows the departure of current Comptroller Glenn Hegar, who is leaving to become Chancellor of the Texas A&M University system.
