Kelly Hancock, a Texas State Senator representing the 9th Senate district since 2013, announced on his Twitter account that Texas has set new records for school choice program applications and highlighted an endorsement from a local builders association.
On February 5, 2026, Hancock posted: “Texas just shattered the first day application record for a new school choice program! Over 35,000 students and counting! Everything is bigger in Texas, including empowering parents. This is just the beginning.”
Later that day, he provided an update on the number of applicants: “Nearly 42,000 students applied for Texas Education Freedom Accounts on day one, a national record! Incredible work by our team at the Comptroller’s office. Thank you @GregAbbott_TX, @LtGovTX, @Burrows4TX, @CreightonForTX, @BradBuckleyDVM, and #txlege for EMPOWERING PARENTS!” The post attributed credit to state officials and legislators involved in launching the program.
In another tweet from February 5, Hancock shifted focus to housing and economic development: “Home builders play a critical role in growing our economy, creating jobs, and helping Texas families achieve the dream of homeownership. Thank you, Hammer & Nails PAC of the Greater Fort Worth Builders Association for endorsing my campaign!”
Hancock’s recent social media activity comes as part of his ongoing tenure as a Republican member of the Texas State Senate. He succeeded Chris Harris in 2013 as representative of District 9.
