FORT WORTH – In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis with many employers laying off or furloughing employees, Lockheed Martin has embarked upon a nationwide hiring effort, with at least 700 expected new jobs in Fort Worth.

The local workforce additions would be for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Fort Worth – where the F-35 stealth fighter jet is manufactured – as well as the company’s missile and fire control plant in Grand Prairie, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The hiring is part of the company's nationwide push to add approximately 5,000 new workers by the company. The company employs approximately 20,500 individuals in northern Texas.

“As we all deal with the challenges of the health crisis, we will continue to perform and deliver critical products and capabilities for the United States and our allies, support job creation and help those in need wherever we operate,” Lockheed Martin Chairman, President and CEO Marillyn Hewson said in a statement.
