The iconic workwear manufacturer Dickies has stepped up to produce personal protective equipment (PPE) garments.
The global brand promised to deliver 50,000 PPE gowns in May, ramping up to 675,000 gowns in June, the company told Business Wire.
“We are joining in the effort to help healthcare professionals on the frontlines,” Denny Bruce, Dickies Global Brand president, said. “We are a heritage brand that goes to work when the going gets tough. We are committed to equipping these workers with the critical medical garments they need to protect themselves as they continue the fight against this pandemic."
By September, Dickies plans to produce 3.4 million isolation gowns.
Fabric for the gowns will be sourced from industry partner Milliken & Co., in accordance with guidelines issued by the FDA, the company says. Workers who make the gowns will follow health and safety guidelines to make worker health a top priority. Dickies will ensure that necessary educational, screening, and social distancing protocols will be strictly enforced in route and within the facility.
During World War II, the company helped to produce millions of uniforms for the U.S. military. To support health care workers on the front lines of COVID-19, Dickies is leveraging VF Corp.’s global supply chain and capabilities by converting several manufacturing facilities to produce urgently needed PPE garments.
