City of Fort Worth issued the following announcement on Nov. 30.
The holidays are the season of giving, and what better way to give than to help homeless pets in need. Thousands of pets are in North Texas animal shelters this holiday season awaiting their forever homes.
This year, North Texas animal shelters joined to make the season more comforting for the dogs and cats by hosting Comfort and Joy, a blanket and toy drive. The donation drive is being held Dec. 1-Jan. 2.
Individuals, organizations and businesses can donate blankets and pet toys, which are in constant need at the shelter. Canned food is also being accepted; it helps puppies and kittens as well as pets who are sick or injured and need extra nutrition.
In Fort Worth, donations can be dropped off at:
- Fort Worth Animal Shelter, 4900 Martin St.
- PetSmart Adoption Center-Hulen, 4800 S.W. Loop 820.
- PetSmart Adoption Center-Alliance, 2901 Texas Sage Trail.
- New or gently worn, clean and washed blankets; no fringe or decorative items on the blankets.
- Durable dog toys, including rubber toys such as Nylabone and Kong-type products, rope and woven toys.
- For cats, plastic toys and small toys that can be swatted. No toys with bells, string, yarn or other small parts that can become a choking hazard.
