City of Fort Worth issued the following announcement on Dec. 8.
Mayor Betsy Price joined other state and local leaders Tuesday at the White House to hear the latest on COVID-19 vaccine distribution plans.
President Donald Trump hosted leaders from across the country and private-sector partners for an Operation Warp Speed Vaccine Summit. The summit featured remarks from Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and panel discussions on the development, testing and distribution of the vaccine in record time.
“I was pleased to participate in the Operation Warp Speed Vaccine Summit in Washington, D.C., and to hear from leaders and private-sector partners on the latest developments in our fight against COVID-19,” Price said. “We are at the most critical juncture in our efforts to combat this virus and the efficient distribution of this vaccine is of the utmost importance. I look forward to continuing to work with state and federal leadership as vaccine distribution begins in the coming weeks for those Tier 1 populations set forth by the State of Texas. Fort Worth stands ready to provide logistical support to ensure a safe and effective distribution process.”
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced this month that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has made an initial allotment of more than 1.4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccines to Texas to be distributed in December. These vaccines, which should begin arriving in Texas the week of Dec. 14, will be distributed to qualifying providers across the state who will administer the immunizations according to state guidelines. Additional allotments may be made later in the month, and increased allotments are expected in January and the following months.
During the White House summit, Trump signed an executive order directing the Department of Health and Human Services to prioritize vaccine doses for the American people and provide a framework for donating and distributing vaccine doses internationally once supply meets U.S. demand.
