Property developer Saigebrook Development and O-SDA Industries are seeking an artist to create signature artwork in an effort to repurpose the former landmark sign of Massey’s Restaurant.
The restaurant sign will be repurposed as part of the Near Southside’s Art South program. The sign has been withdrawn from its perch on its pole and the artist will be required to repaint the corrugated plastic panel with raised lettering. The sign will read: “Massey’s Restaurant.” “Chicken Fried Steaks” will be added as the subtext and the lettering will be surrounding green metal framing.
The finished artwork will hang inside the restaurant's community room on the south wall. That is the area where artists talk, demonstrations and other events will occur.
Artists who are chosen as finalists will be offered a wage to generate a project concept for the project committee to review.
Artists are authorized to recommend changes to the initial sign design. The changes must be based on their idea and can't exceed the $2,500 budget.
