Late Runs Sink TCU In Sunday Loss

Texas scored five times in its last three at-bats to hand TCU a 7-3 loss Sunday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Tommy Sacco tallied two more hits in the contest and Brayden Taylor homers for the second day in a row.

 

The Rundown

TCU opened the scoring with a run on two hits in the second. Tommy Sacco singled with one out and scored easily on a Kurtis Byrne double for a 1-0 lead.

 

With two outs in the third, a bloop single kept the inning alive for Ivan Melendez. His two-run home run gave the Longhorns their first lead of the game.

 

TCU answered right back, tying the game at two. David Bishop led off the fourth with a base hit. Three batters later, he was standing on third when Lucas Gordon unleashed a wild pitch allowing Bishop to score.

 

Texas broke through with a run on three hits in the sixth. Another two out rally for the Longhorns in the seventh led to two more runs and a 5-2 lead.

 

Brayden Taylor hit his seventh home run of the season in the eighth to pull the Frogs back within two. A costly error in the bottom of the inning helped the Longhorns pick up two unearned runs.

 

Brett Walker (3-2) took the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits. He didn't walk a batter and fanned three.

9 – Tommy Sacco reached base in all four trips to the plate. He has now reached safely in his last nine plate appearances (six hits, three walks).

 

Notes:

• TCU is 2-2 on its current five game road swing.

• TCU homered in a game for the 16th time this season.

• TCU turned two double plays in the contest and five in the series.

• Brayden Taylor hit his seventh home run of the season and the 19th of his career.

• Tommy Sacco recorded his 14th multi-hit game of the year and the 27th of his career.

 

Next Up:

With the loss, TCU falls to 21-11 overall and 7-5 in Big 12 play. The Horned Frogs will wrap up their road trip with a Tuesday night contest at Dallas Baptist. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. The contest will be televised on Bally Sports SW as well as ESPN+ outside the Bally Sports coverage area.
