TCU Ties Wisconsin in Season-Opener

No. 7 TCU battled to a 0-0 tie with Wisconsin in the season opener Thursday night at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. Lauren Kellett notched her first shutout of the season, making four saves in the contest.

The Rundown

The first half saw back-and-forth defensive action for both teams. In the ninth minute, Gracie Brian had a quality look from just inside the six-yard box, but her shot was corralled by the diving Badger goalkeeper.

Lauren Kellett made two stellar saves on shots from inside the six in the first 25 minutes of the contest to keep the game scoreless. At the end of the half, TCU and Wisconsin both had seven shot attempts.

Down a field player after a red card in the 63rd minute, TCU didn't miss a beat. The Frogs kept the pressure on offensively. TCU notched five corner kicks and two shots over a 14-minute span but couldn't solve the Badger defense. TCU outshot Wisconsin 7-4 in the second half and collected six corner kicks while holding the Badgers to two.

With time running down, Wisconsin began to make a push offensively, but Grace Coppinger made a key defensive play to track down the Badger forward, preventing a great look on goal.

Quote of the Game

Head Coach Eric Bell

On offensive play in the second half

"It was much better and crisper. The ideas in the attack zone were a lot better and we were able to create some chances through that."

The impact of Lauren Kellett

"Lauren is great. She made some big-time saves and is a force to be reckoned with in the back. She's a fantastic goalkeeper, so we expect that kind of game play out of her."
