Cook Children’s Unveils New Medical Center in Prosper, Blending Technology with Moments of Magic

Following several years of anticipation, Cook Children’s Health Care System unveiled its new pediatric hospital in Prosper with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. Cook Children’s Medical Center – Prosper is located at 4100 University Drive, which is part of a 23-acre campus at Windsong Parkway and Highway 380.

The state-of-the-art facility was built with everything for the child in mind, including what they'll see and experience as they make their way through the facility. Spaces are bathed in every color of the rainbow. Storybook murals meant to capture and stoke the imaginations of children define many spaces.

In the main entrance, guests are welcomed by a Sistine Chapel-like painting of flying cows — a nod to Cook Children's Cowtown roots — a massive video wall and a tile motif of a tree whose color-coded falling leaves guide visitors to the emergency department in one direction and outpatient services in the other.

“This is an extraordinary time in our almost 105-year history in North Texas,” said Rick W. Merrill, President and CEO of Cook Children’s Health Care System. “Families in this fast-growing region can take comfort in knowing there’s no need to drive long distances to see board-certified pediatricians, specialists, intensivists, hospitalists, and emergency medical doctors. Their child’s medical needs can be met right here by our outstanding team in Prosper.”

Cook Children’s Medical Center – Prosper includes an emergency department, operating and procedure rooms, pediatric ICU, medical/surgical unit, outpatient infusion center, imaging services, retail pharmacy, laboratory services, and pharmacy services.

With thousands of families moving to this area of North Texas each month, the need for quality pediatric health care is evident. Cook Children’s has already served more than 260,000 children through its 17 primary-care clinics located in this booming region, which includes Prosper, Aubrey, Plano, McKinney, Allen, Denton, Celina, Frisco, Little Elm, Flower Mound, and Carrollton.

“Cook Children’s is more than a health care system. We strive to be an extension of your family, growing with your child from their first steps to adulthood,” said Kevin Greene, Vice President and Administrator at Cook Children’s Medical Center – Prosper. “When your child needs world-class pediatric care, we’re here – whether it’s primary, urgent or emergency care, or treatment for a chronic condition. You can trust our team to take care of you and your child’s every need.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for Cook Children’s Medical Center – Prosper coincides with a new look for the health care system. This month, Cook Children’s unveiled a new logo and a culture platform to reinforce its commitment to its patients and community. Patient families in the Prosper area can expect to experience the same culture of kindness, safety, and compassion they’ve come to know from Cook Children’s.

Cook Children’s has long been recognized as a leader in pediatric health. In fact, US News & World Report has ranked Cook Children’s among the best children’s hospitals in the United States every year for the past 15 years. In 2022, Cook Children’s earned recognition for cancer treatment, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, and pulmonology.

Many of these medical specialties are currently available at Cook Children’s Prosper campus, which opened in 2019 with urgent care and primary care services.

A medical office building was added in 2020 providing access to 14 specialties including:

  • Cardiology
  • Ear, Nose and Throat
  • Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Hematology and Oncology
  • Nephrology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Psychology
  • Sleep Medicine
  • Urology
  • Neurology
  • Pediatric Surgery
  • Pulmonology
  • Sports Medicine
An ambulatory surgery center for outpatient procedures, outpatient lab, and retail pharmacy are also located in the medical office building. By the end of the year, 549 medical professionals and ancillary staff will work at the Prosper medical campus.

“Cook Children’s is known nationally and internationally for its world class patient care, leading clinical research and medical advancements,” said Tony Anani, M.D., MPH, MBA, gastroenterologist and Medical Director of Clinical Specialties at Cook Children’s Medical Center – Prosper. “I’m proud to be part of this incredible organization that truly embodies the motto, “Everything for the child.”

Cook Children’s Medical Center – Prosper also showcases the best available medical technology including features directly related to patient satisfaction. For example, if a patient in the hospital needs to see a specialist at Cook Children’s Fort Worth campus, they can visit virtually through the in-room TV.

In addition, the MyCookChildrens app provides patient families access to wayfinding, information about their care team, and daily schedule, to name a few. Another perk of the Prosper campus is Peaks Tech Zone. Similar to Apple’s Genius Bar, Peaks Tech Zone provides families access to health technology advocates who can assist with setup and support for their child’s medical device and/or MyCookChildren’s account.

Cook Children’s Medical Center – Prosper marks the first hospital Cook Children’s has built outside of the flagship medical campus in Fort Worth. The facility will open at the end of the year.
