Cold Weather Preparations

Cold Weather Preparations | CITY OF BEDFORD TEXAS

Cold Weather Preparations | CITY OF BEDFORD TEXAS

Alright, Bedford - it’s about to get a little chilly around here these next few days. If you haven’t already, please take precautions now and remember the 4 P’s:

  • PEOPLE: Check in on your elderly neighbors, family, and anyone you know that may be vulnerable in winter conditions.
  • PETS: Bring your furry friends inside! If it’s too cold outside for you, it is for them too.
  • PLANTS: Bring plants inside or use a sheet/blanket to cover plants that must remain outside.
  • PIPES: Cover outdoor pipes and spigots to prevent freezing and breaks. Also, don’t forget to turn off your sprinkler systems. If you don’t know how to locate and shut off water for your home, please watch the City’s video to review how to safely turn off your water.
If you need assistance with turning off your water in an emergency, please contact Public Works at 817-952-2200 during normal business hours. For after-hour emergencies, call the Police Dispatch non-emergency line at 817-952-2127.

While we aren’t anticipating any rain or wintry mix this go around, our Streets Division will be treating the major intersections along Harwood Road, Bedford Road, Central Drive, and Brown Trail. In addition, city vehicles and equipment are staged and ready to go in the event of an emergency, and our elevated storage tanks and pump stations have been winterized.

Parks and Recreation staff will be locking and closing park restrooms at Meadow Park Athletic Complex, Stormie Jones Park, and Generations Park at Boys Ranch, to avoid the potential for busted pipes and costly repairs. All restrooms will reopen to the public on Tuesday, December 27.
