WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-TX), Chairwoman of the House Appropriations Committee, led a letter—along with her North Texas colleagues—seeking answers from the Department of State on the dramatic delays in processing passport applications.

“My office has seen a massive increase in requests for assistance regarding passport applications and renewals. Families in my district and across the country are being forced to cancel their travel plans because of increased wait times, a lack of available in-person appointments, and an inability to communicate with passport agencies.

“I understand that the State Department is experiencing an unprecedented number of requests, but they must address these issues to immediately remedy the situation. My staff continues to work each and every day to assist constituents with their passport needs.”

In this letter the Members respectfully ask the State Department to implement measures to help their offices alleviate wait times and better communicate with the people they all serve. The Members request an update on these implemented actions be provided to their offices without delay.

Granger was joined by Texas colleagues whose offices work with the Dallas Passport Agency: Marc Veasey (D-TX), Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), Colin Allred (D-TX), Roger Williams (R-TX), Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), Michael T. McCaul (R-TX), Pat Fallon (R-TX), John R. Carter (R-TX), Pete Sessions (R-TX), Ronny L. Jackson (R-TX), Beth Van Duyne (R-TX), Jake Ellzey (R-TX), Nathaniel Moran (R-TX), and Keith Self (R-TX).
