Do you want to know what zoning projects are happening in your area and/or Council district? The City of Fort Worth has set up free Zoning newsletters for each district to keep residents up to date.
Why it matters: The City’s Development Services Department promotes orderly growth and land use, while protecting existing property owners, by grouping together compatible development known as zoning. Before land is developed in the city, it must be zoned and platted.
The Zoning Commission reviews all zoning change requests to provide recommendations to City Council, which approves or denies requests.
The zoning regulations and districts are adopted to help implement the Comprehensive Plan and its policies. The policies address land use, transportation and infrastructure, economic development, urban design, housing, historic preservation, environmental quality, parks and recreation and other topics.
What’s next: Visit the City’s website, where residents can sign up for the zoning notifications they are interested in. The newsletter signups are labeled by district for easy access
Go deeper: As a result of redistricting, many residents are now in a new Council District in 2023. To verify your district, visit OneAddress or the District Mapping Tool. Enter your address to see if your district has changed. There are now newsletters for the new districts 10 and 11.
When signing up, make sure you expand the City News section and select (or deselect) the district or districts you’d like to receive news and updates from. This will ensure you’re getting the latest updates from your specific district. If you live close to the boundary for your district, you might want to consider signing up for the adjacent district. This will ensure you get notifications for any zoning cases in your area.
