The City of Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Fire Department officially broke ground for Fire Station 43 on Thursday, Oct. 12. The station will serve one of the most rapidly growing areas in Fort Worth, located on the west side of the city just off I-30 in Aledo.
Why it matters: Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker, City Manager David Cooke, Assistant City Manager Valerie Washington, District 3 Councilmember Michael Crain, Fire Chief Jim Davis and members of the Walsh family and community were on site to mark the occasion and shared a few words with attendees and media in attendance. Immediately following the groundbreaking, there was a reception hosted by the Walsh HOA at Founders Park, where food, prizes, bounce houses and a fire truck were available for guests to enjoy.
What they’re saying: “The Fort Worth Fire Department is proud to have a permanent station to house our firefighters, not only in the Walsh community but as a gatekeeper of our neighbors on the west side of town,” Davis said. “Since temporary Fire Station 43 was put into service, we have been able to significantly reduce response times to those in the far west side when 911 is called and seconds truly count. We are honored to be welcomed into the Walsh community.”
Go deeper: Station 43, located at 2200 Walsh Ranch Parkway, will measure close to 11,000 square feet with four apparatus bays to allow for future growth.
- There will be 12 firefighters (four firefighters on each 24-hour shift), one engine and one brush truck assigned to the station.
- The single-story prototype floorplan will be masonry construction and will cost about $9.1 million.
- The new station is scheduled to open in December 2024.
- The facility sits on two acres of land donated by Walsh and is funded by the 2014 bond approved by City of Fort Worth voters.
