The Cowtown Coliseum in the heart of the Fort Worth Stockyards has undergone a major renovation that provides modern amenities while retaining the nostalgic feel of the historic site.

Why it matters: The City-owned property at 121 E. Exchange Ave. has quickly become a highly sought-after venue for private events for groups ranging from 25 to 2,000 guests.

About the Coliseum: The handsome building – built in 1907-08 – is one of the architectural gems of the Fort Worth Stockyards. It was the site of the first-ever indoor rodeo, and it currently hosts the world’s only year-round rodeo, as well as other exciting events.

When it opened in February 1908, the then-Northside Coliseum was billed as “the most opulent and dynamic livestock pavilion in the entire Western Hemisphere.” It hosted what we today know as the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, then called the National Feeders and Breeders Show.

Recent developments: In June 2021, a new partnership that includes ASM Global — a Los Angeles-based venue and event management company — Stockyards Heritage Development Co. and Professional Bull Riders created a joint venture to operate the Cowtown Coliseum and to expand the entertainment programming and marketing partnerships in the National Historic District.

Some of the major building renovations from January 2022 to today include:

  • Technology improvements such as 17 new LED screens; concert-quality sound system and lighting rigs; advanced internet; digital display menus at concession stands; and 75-inch monitors in the lobby.
  • Guest comfort improvements such as 60 upgraded Gold Buckle seats; 200 seats added to the venue; four new bars; upgraded suites, including the newest addition, the American Hat Suite, sponsored by American Hat Co., that includes a feature photo wall of the history of the famous hat company, a guest’s photo wall backdrop, upgraded furniture, neon signs and a new bar.
  • The new Platinum Deck allows ticketholders to start their visit at an exclusive VIP entrance followed by an opportunity to step onto the arena dirt to pose for a photo in front of the bucking chutes before heading to the Platinum Deck. There, guests experience an upscale environment filled with western decor and a unique view of the action looking down to the bucking chutes.
  • New ADA ramp to access the west side of the arena seats.
