The Diamond Hill Community Center’s grand opening starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, and will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, musical performances from area schools and an open house lasting until 1 p.m., allowing the community to explore the new center.

Thanks to support from the 2018 Bond Program and a $1 million grant from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, the original Diamond Hill Community Center was demolished and a new center was commissioned. The state-of-the-art 25,000-square-foot facility, at 1700 N.E. 37th St., was designed by GFF Architects to replace the aging center from the 1950s.

What you’ll see: The new community center offers a wide array of amenities, including a spacious gymnasium, fully equipped boxing gym, teaching kitchen, modern fitness center, versatile meeting spaces, game room and computer lab. To house many of these larger gathering spaces in an economical manner, the new building uses a combination of three premanufactured long-span metal building structures connected by the main entry and lobby.

The architectural design combines classic masonry and a contemporary metal building skin, accentuated by vibrant colors that pay homage to traditional Hispanic textiles.

The unveiling of Rising Strong, a public art piece by artist Elizabeth Akamatsu, will also take place during Saturday’s ceremony. Rising Strong is inspired by the Diamond Hill area’s family legacy and celebrates the community through the concept of planting a seed, setting down roots and growing a bountiful life.

The stainless steel sculpture includes flowers inspired by Diamond Hill’s namesake, which reflect the colors of its surroundings.

About the center: Diamond Hill Community Center, located just north of the Fort Worth Stockyards, is a focal point for community engagement. The center offers a diverse range of programs for all ages, including a popular afterschool program, boxing and community events. The newly constructed facility aims to promote health, wellness and cultural enrichment in the community through camps, specialized classes and programs.
