Residents now have until Jan. 31 to respond to a survey that will help the Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department shape the future of recreational spaces.

In a nutshell: The department will develop an extensive Park, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan titled Play Big!

What to expect: The wide-ranging plan aims to enhance the overall park system, identify land for future parkland and facilities, improve existing parks and recreational facilities, and create new parks, amenities and programming.

The Play Big! Master Plan will also explore strategies for expanding recreational programming, fostering economic development and implementing financial strategies, including potential funding and grant opportunities. Additionally, recommendations regarding policy and regulatory revisions will be proposed to safeguard the final plan’s vision and concepts.

Public outreach will include stakeholder and community engagement efforts, involving community workshops and pop-up events. This extensive community involvement will be instrumental in gathering valuable input and insights from residents.

One of the key components of the community engagement process is the development of a statistically valid survey and online programming, designed in both English and Spanish. This survey will serve as an objective tool to assess whether the park system aligns with locally established standards.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the survey and community engagement events to play a role in shaping the future of Fort Worth’s parks and recreational spaces.
