TCU beach volleyball lost to No. 1 Stanford and No. 9 California on April 11 at the Center of Effort Challenge, held at Swanson Beach Volleyball Courts in San Luis Obispo, California.
The matches were significant as TCU, ranked eighth nationally, faced two top-ten opponents to close out its weekend tournament. The Horned Frogs’ performance impacts their standing and provides insight into their strengths and areas for improvement ahead of upcoming matches.
In the first match against Stanford, TCU was defeated 4-1. The team managed a win from Sofia Izuzquiza and Morgan Williams but fell short on other courts despite forcing third sets in two flights. According to the official results, “Kelly Belardi and Avery Jackson (STAN) def. Elea Beutel and Kaitlyn Bradley (TCU), 21-15, 21-9” while “Morgan Williams and Sofia Izuzquiza (TCU) def. Indigo Clarke and Clara Stowell (STAN), 21-15, 24-22.” TCU now leads the series with Stanford by a narrow margin of five wins to four.
The second match saw TCU fall to Cal by another score of 4-1. Hannah Taylor and Melina Mol secured a sweep for TCU’s only point in this contest: “Hannah Taylor and Melina Mol (TCU) def. Bella Adishian and Mila Yarich (CAL), 21-13, 21-15.” This marked TCU’s first loss ever against Cal in program history.
Throughout both matches, adjustments were made to lineups as the Horned Frogs sought effective combinations against tough competition. The team did not secure a win at the number one flight for the fifth consecutive match.
Looking ahead, TCU will return home on Friday, April 17 at 2 p.m., where they are scheduled to play Stephen F. Austin on Senior Day.
