TCU secured a 12-5 win over Tarleton State on April 14 at Lupton Stadium, finishing its homestand with a strong performance. The Horned Frogs broke open the game in the eighth inning, scoring seven runs highlighted by Rob Liddington’s grand slam.
The game was close early, with TCU trailing after the first inning. In the second inning, a two-out rally began with Nolan Traeger’s double and Lucas Franco’s walk to load the bases. Colton Griffin tied the score with a single before Cole Cramer drove in two more runs to give TCU a lead. Tarleton responded in the third inning, tying the game after back-to-back doubles and a passed ball.
Jack Bell’s leadoff single in the fourth set up another go-ahead run for TCU as he scored on Griffin’s sacrifice fly. In the sixth, Walter Quinn escaped a jam to maintain TCU’s lead before Franco singled home Bell for an insurance run.
The decisive eighth inning started with Franco drawing a walk and saw eight straight Horned Frogs reach base. Cramer brought in one run, Chase Brunson was hit by a pitch for another RBI, Noah Franco beat out an infield single for another run, and Liddington capped off the rally with his grand slam.
Pitcher Cade Nelson earned his first career win by retiring six of seven batters faced. Other notable performances included Colton Griffin’s multi-hit game—his eighth this season—and Cole Cramer’s twelfth multi-hit outing of the year.
With this victory, TCU improved its record to 22-14 overall and will begin a three-game series at Baylor starting Friday night.
