TCU women’s basketball announced on Apr. 10 the signing of Stanford transfer Lara Somfai to its roster for the 2026-27 season.
The addition comes shortly after TCU’s repeat run to the Elite Eight, as head coach Mark Campbell seeks to strengthen the team for next year. Somfai, a 6-foot-3 stretch forward, started all 32 games in her rookie campaign at Stanford and averaged 10.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. She ranked fifth among all players in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and tenth nationally among first-year players in rebounding average.
Somfai was one of six freshmen—and only two at the Power Conference level—to average at least ten points and nine rebounds per game during the 2025-26 season. Coming out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, she was a consensus five-star recruit and rated as the No. 12 overall prospect by ESPN HoopGurlz for her class year. She also earned McDonald’s and Jordan Brand Classic All-American honors and played in the Nike Hoop Summit for Team World.
Originally from Mór, Hungary, Somfai grew up in Adelaide, Australia, competing for Basketball Australia since 2023. As a freshman at Stanford, she received several accolades including selection to the ACC All-Freshman team and four ACC Rookie of the Week honors. She was also named U.S. Basketball Writers Association National Freshman of the Week on Nov. 25.
During her first collegiate season, Somfai accumulated notable statistics: she scored a total of 344 points with seven double-doubles—the most by an ACC freshman that year—and set an ACC freshman record with a single-game performance against Pitt that included 23 rebounds.
Somfai joins TCU as a sophomore with three seasons of eligibility remaining and is now Campbell’s second Stanford transfer with Australian roots.
