A Denton man has been formally charged on criminal complaint with conspiracy to engage in child sex trafficking following his arrest in an anti-human trafficking sting in April.
William Adam Jonathan Smith, 30, was alleged to have taken money from sex work performed by minors. If he is found guilty, Smith could be facing a sentence of life in prison.
In the U.S. Attorney’s release reported by the Denton Record Chronicle, Smith allegedly would rent rooms for sex work. Investigators located a juvenile girl during the sting with an adult woman who was engaged in sex acts for money. The older woman was alleged to have made statements to the effect she was training the juvenile for a career in sex work at Smith’s behest.
The sting was a collaborative effort by the Denton Police Department, Department of Homeland Security and the Texas Attorney General’s Office.
Smith is currently held in Denton County Jail awaiting prosecution from Assistant U.S. Attorney Doug Allen.
