Education Student’s Book to be in Hundreds of Schools

99

The book authored by College of Education student Giovanna McBride will now be in the libraries of more than 1,900 elementary schools across the country. McBride authored Gigi at the White House! to share her personal experience of spending childhood years at the White House while her mother served as chief of staff to First Lady Laura Bush.

The children’s book was originally published in 2021 and provides vivid illustrations and a behind-the-scenes look at special occasions and everyday happenings at the White House. The book is being provided to elementary schools via the backing of a donor. The particular schools align with the schools that have received grants from the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries.

“I am so grateful to Mrs. Bush for the many special and happy childhood memories I have of visiting the White House and am excited that all the elementary schools supported by the Laura Bush Foundation will receive a copy of my book,” McBride said. “I hope every child who reads it is inspired to learn more about the White House and all the people who live and work there.”

Since its inception in 2002, The Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries has awarded more than $19.5 million to more than 3,300 schools across the country. The grants are used to extend, update and diversify the book and print collections of school libraries.

McBride is an early education major and a rising junior. Read more from the TCU College of Education.
