Tarleton Hosts ‘Daytripper’ Chet Garner

Lone Star Emmy winner Chet Garner will give a crash course in travel, filmmaking, marketing — whatever it takes to start a successful TV show — at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center in Stephenville on the Tarleton State University campus. A reception will follow in the university art gallery.

Garner is the creator and host of The Daytripper Texas travel show airing on PBS stations nationwide. Born in nearby Comanche and raised in Port Neches, his love for storytelling began around a Boy Scout campfire, toting his grandfather’s VHS camera.

He earned a degree in radio-television-film from UT Austin and went on to graduate first in his class from Baylor Law School. After practicing law for three years, he decided to follow his passion and simultaneously inspire folks to appreciate the beauty, history and food of Texas.

The Daytripper, now in its 13th season, has won 12 Lone Star Emmys, including four for Outstanding Program Host. Garner also shares his stories via monthly columns in Texas Highways and Texas Co-Op Power magazines. His full-service commercial production company, Hogaboom Road, Inc., has clients ranging from Smokey Bear to Best Western.

His Tarleton appearance is sponsored by the digital media studies program, the Department of Visual Arts and Design, and the College of Liberal and Fine Arts.

A founding member of The Texas A&M University System, Tarleton is breaking records — in enrollment, research, scholarship, athletics, philanthropy and engagement — while transforming the lives of more than 15,000 students in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Midlothian, A&M RELLIS at Bryan and online. True to Tarleton’s values of excellence, integrity, and respect, academic programs emphasize real world learning and address regional, state and national needs.
