Tarleton Student Chosen for Study Abroad in Costa Rica

Tarleton State University student Naomi English has been selected as one of 14 students granted a three-week study abroad trip to Costa Rica this summer. She is a member of the founding cohort of Tarleton’s Texas Leadership Scholars.

Naomi, a President’s List honor student from Caddo Mills majoring in wildlife sustainability and ecosystem sciences, was chosen from among 250 Texas Leadership Scholars statewide.

She will be in San Jose, Costa Rica, from May 27 to June 11, earn credit in the Women Entrepreneurship and Sustainability course taught by instructors at the Universidad Veritas, and spend time immersed in the local culture and ecosystem.

Her selection includes all expenses covered for her flights, transportation, lodging, two weekend excursions and meals; the total award exceeds $5,000.

The Texas Leadership Scholars program began in fall 2022 with 14 students and will welcome an additional 12 students in fall 2023. The scholars are selected through a partnership with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and receive tuition, fees and room and board for all four years of their undergraduate education.

Tarleton’s Texas Leadership Scholars program is led by Dr. Elizabeth Wallace, Assistant Vice President for the Lozano-Long Division of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and International Programs.

A founding member of The Texas A&M University System, Tarleton is breaking records — in enrollment, research, scholarship, athletics, philanthropy and engagement — while transforming the lives of more than 15,000 students in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Midlothian, A&M RELLIS at Bryan and online. True to Tarleton’s values of excellence, integrity, and respect, academic programs emphasize real world learning and address regional, state and national needs.
