Falcon Baseball get Things ‘Goin’

UT Permian Basin hitters rack up an avalanche of hits and runs to help pitcher Parker Goin earn his first win of the season over the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds.

Goin gave up a run in the first inning, but shut out the Hounds for the next four innings. Meanwhile the Falcons responded with five runs in the second, two runs in the third, four runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth inning.

Heading into the seventh inning, ENMU scored one run to bring the Falcon lead under 10 runs to prevent the run-rule to go into effect. However, leadoff batter Ethan Foldstrom reached on a walk before scoring from first base off a game winning RBI double to deep left-center from Mason Hamlin to walk off Eastern 13-3.

Hamlin went four for five with two doubles, three RBIs and a run. Flodstrom had two hits and four runs with an RBI. Cooper Ciesielski had two hits with a double, three runs, and an RBI. Ethan Babcock got two hits with a double, two RBIs and a run. Jack Haggerty had two hits, one run and one RBI.

On the mound Goin went 5.2 winnings, and although he only had one strikeout, the sophomore and the Falcon defense collected nine flyouts and seven ground outs to keep the Hounds at bay.

On deck for the Falcons will be a Tuesday afternoon game against West Texas neighbor Sul Ross State. The game will be at 1pm, Tuesday March 28 at Roden Field. The Falcons will return to Lone Star Conference play when they travel to Lawton, OK to face Cameron University for a four game series. Game one will be Friday March 31 at 4pm. Games two and three will be Saturday April 1 with game one of the day starting at 2pm. The final game of the series will be Sunday April 2 starting at 1pm.
