Matthew Louis, a parent from Keller, said "The school vouchers would help us pay for school with the money that we have and will pay in taxes."
“I currently have four children with one in private school (two next year). The other two will attend in the future. The school vouchers would help us pay for school with the money that we have and will pay in taxes. School choice will help improve overall education in the same way economic competition improves products. Helping create a "free market" of sorts in the educational sphere will have long-lasting benefits for the students and teachers in both private and public schools.”
House Bill 3 (HB 3), introduced by State Representative Brad Buckley, proposes the creation of an Education Savings Account (ESA) program, according to Texas Policy Research.
This program would allocate approximately $10,000 per student, with an initial budget of $1 billion, enabling around 100,000 students to participate in its first year.
These funds could be used for various educational expenses, including private school tuition, homeschooling resources, specialized services, and instructional materials.
Governor Abbott is supportive of school choice. He said, "This session, Texas will usher in a new era where families have the opportunity to choose the learning environment that meets the unique needs of their children," in a February 26 press release.
