City Council on Tuesday approved renaming Rosedale Plaza Park to Historic Stop Six Park.
Rosedale Plaza Park, 5200 East Rosedale St., holds a rich history dating back to its acquisition in 1969. The park, initially spanning 5.66 acres at a cost of $25,028.80, was established to cater to the needs of an underserved African American community in east Fort Worth.
Over the years, the park underwent various improvements, expanding to its current size of 6.25 acres. The park’s current amenities include a walking path, playground, pavilion, fitness stations and a backstop.
Remarkably, all comments received by the Park Advisory Board were in favor of the proposed name change, with three additional suggested names.
This renaming reflects the commitment to honor the park’s history and the significance of Historic Stop Six Park in Fort Worth’s cultural landscape.
