The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History has announced the completion of the Jane & John Justin Foundation Omni Theater, set to open on December 14, 2024. This theater, formerly known as the IMAX Omni Theater, introduces advanced technology for an 8K digital experience. "The Omni Theater, powered by Cosm Technology, will be the world’s first LED digital dome of its size in a museum," positioning the museum as a leader in visual technology.
The renovation spanned 18 months and involved a complete overhaul of the dome with nearly 12,000 LED modules installed. This upgrade aims to provide visitors with a new level of immersive content viewing. The theater is equipped to host multi-video presentations, corporate events, product launches, and more.
Currently, the theater's programming focuses on documentaries intended to offer educational experiences for visitors, including over 50,000 students on field trips annually. Films like "Jane Goodall: Reasons for Hope" and "Cities of the Future" are part of its lineup. A new Fort Worth flyover film will also be available through collaboration with Visit Fort Worth.
Efforts have been made to ensure accessibility throughout the theater. It is now fully ADA compliant from entrance to seating area. The facility includes wider seats accommodating up to 278 people and additional wheelchair spaces.
Tickets for the Jane & John Justin Omni Theater go on sale Monday, November 25. Members receive discounted rates at $12 for adults and $10 for children (ages three and up). General admission is priced at $15 for adults and $12.50 for children (ages three and up). Tickets do not include general admission to other museum exhibits.
